
'Blackhole Busting’ Budget Approved by South Gloucestershire Council
The Lib Dem/Labour partnership which runs South Gloucestershire Council was pleased tonight to pass a budget that is balanced for the next 2 years.
Frenchay & Downend Liberal Democrats are a growing and enthusiastic group of local volunteers who are determined to improve life in the ward. Better bus services, and maintaining and improving civic amenities — such as upgraded healthcare facilities — are especially prominent in their campaigns. Improving the local environment and addressing the Climate Emergency are themes that influence many aspects of this work. Like other South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats, they champion a Council that is responsive and accountable to the Public.
Electorally, Frenchay & Downend ward is close-fought between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. In the 2023 local elections the Liberal Democrats received the most votes. However, because of a non-proportional electoral system used, two Conservative councillors were elected in addition to the Liberal Democrat Raj Sood.

South Gloucestershire moved one step closer to ending the nightmare of speculative development taking place across the district by approving the Local Plan at its Full Council on 12th Feb in order to move on to the next stage.
The Liberal Democrat and Labour partnership which runs South Gloucestershire council presented the new draft local plan at Cabinet on November 13th. The plan sets out the housing needs for the district over the next 15 years.
The South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats have publicly stated their ambition to protect the historic old school site in Frenchay from potential development following the previous Conservative administration's attempts to sell the site.
Local campaigner Raj Sood met with South Gloucestershire Council Engineers this month to discuss the design of the Hambrook Lights junction, and its impact on public safety, traffic congestion and associated pollution.
