Supporting our bus network
At the recent Full Council Meeting of South Gloucestershire Council Leader of the Liberal Democrat Opposition Group Councillor Claire Young proposed an amendment to a Conservative motion, challenging them to work constructively with the WECA Mayor to improve the bus services that are in such a dire state.
“Rather than working to fix the problem, the Conservatives are wasting time trying to deflect attention from their own part in the bus cuts debacle.
"Local people will not be fooled into putting all the blame on one decision about office location. They can see the huge issues facing our country, which the Government is doing nothing to tackle. It was the Conservative Government that mishandled the economy, failed to help bus operators with rising fuel costs and pursued a reckless Brexit, contributing to a shortage of bus drivers. Local Conservatives seem happy to stand by their colleagues in Parliament, whatever they do.
"I am unimpressed with the inability of the Executive Member and WECA Mayor to form a good working relationship for the good of the people of South Gloucestershire. Instead of adding my name to a letter that tries to deceive the public, I will be writing my own letter to the WECA Mayor and the Executive Member, encouraging them to put aside political differences, ditch the spin and work together to solve this crisis.”
