The Thornbury and Yate MP Claire Young has donated stacks of new children's books to a charity which supports vulnerable families and homeless young people.
This morning Claire met with the family support team at Caring for Communities and People (CCP) at their base in Yate to hand over the books.
The books are a prize that Claire won at a Westminster event hosted by the Publishers Association. They will be used to help families that have limited access to reading materials.
CCP works with South Gloucestershire Council to support families and also provides accommodation for people aged 16-25. Claire went to Southwold House in Yate as part of her visit and met the Chief Executive Cordell Ray as well as other staff.
The MP left her mark on the house, literally, after being invited by a resident to add her handprint to a decorative wall in Southwold House.
Claire said:
“It was wonderful to find such a good home for the books. I’m sure they will be a help for the team in their work with families that are struggling.
“I enjoyed the visit to Southwold House - it’s a crucial facility for young people in need of accommodation, and I had a lot of fun adding my handprint to the wall!”
Cordell Ray, Chief Executive of Caring for Communities and People, added:
"It was a pleasure to welcome our local MP to Southwold House today. Claire was clearly interested in both our Accommodation Based Services for young homeless people and Early Help Family Services, providing support to families when family life becomes a little too much.
"The generous donation of children's books from Claire will go out to the many families we work with throughout the year.
"We enjoyed showing Claire around and one young person presented her with a home made model of Southwold House for her Constituency Office, which was the highlight of the morning.
"Visits, such as today, are an important opportunity to exchange ideas and enable our MP's to see, first hand, the valuable services provided in the local community."
