Lib Dem MP slams rail fare rise and calls for fare freeze

Thornbury & Yate MP Claire Young has urged for rail fares to be frozen after they rose by 4.6% this weekend.
The cost of a season ticket between Yate and Bristol Temple Meads has now risen to £1,452. It follows ticket price rises of 3.8% in 2022, 5.9% in 2023, and 4.9% in 2024.
Lib Dem MP Claire Young has said that people should not be paying more for a service that is “simply not working” after years of neglect and mismanagement by the Conservatives.
Speaking on her calls to freeze fares, Claire Young MP said:
“Passengers across our area are being hammered by ever increasing train ticket prices, all while our railways are just not working for many people.
“Years of Conservative neglect and mismanagement have forced rail users to suffer endless delays and disruption as they try to go about their everyday lives.
“It’s a slap in the face for all those passengers who have been forced to suffer these cancellations and delayed journeys only for ticket prices to rise yet again this year.
“The Government should do the right thing and freeze fares now, so we can stop passengers forking out more for a service that is not delivering.”
