Following a hard fought campaign, Claire Young has been elected as the new MP for Thornbury and Yate.

Claire received 20,815 votes, giving her a majority of more than 3,000 votes over the Conservative incumbent who has been MP since 2015.

Speaking at the count, Claire said, "Tonight has been a truly historic night for the Liberal Democrats. It's a huge privilege to be elected to represent you in Parliament and I'm looking forward to standing up for everyone, however you voted.

"I will be a strong voice for our communities, especially on tacking the cost-of-living crisis, ending the sewage scandal and fixing the health and care crises."
