Action on closed bridge traffic

The Frampton Cotterell Focus Team at Damson Bridge

Following the Focus Team's campaign to improve traffic congestion and safety during the A432 overbridge closure, a new series of safety measures are due to be implemented.

Having campaigned for better pedestrian safety on Damson Bridge for years, your Focus Team is pleased that one of the measures is to implement a temporary 7.5 tonne weight restriction during the A432 bridge repair which will result in HGVs no longer being able to use the route.

Focus Team Member David Goodwin said, "I’m delighted this weight restriction is being introduced.

“As a bridge user myself I know just how dangerous the road has become to pedestrians and cyclists and this will go a long way towards protecting their safety.”

Other local mitigation measures, which we have pushed for, will include:

  • “Keep Clear” markings on Henfield Road, next to the Manor Playing Field, to tackle the parking issues.

  • "Unsuitable for HGVs" signs at the  entrances to Station Road following complaints about HGVs still using the route.

  • Painting 20mph roundels on Station Road to re-enforce the existing speed limit in that area.

  • Temporarily closing Nibley Lane to motor traffic to tackle the problems caused by increased vehicular use.

We are also pleased to report that the Police have agreed to install special "Check Your Speed" signs on Henfield Road, Ram Hill and Station Road following the many complaints they receive about speeding traffic in those areas.
