South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats have successfully passed a council motion, strongly condemning the ill-advised attempt to remove in-person railway ticket offices across South Gloucestershire. The motion, passed unanimously by council members present, highlights the impact this decision would have on local residents and calls for a reversal of the proposed measures.

South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats recognize the vital role that in-person ticket offices play in ensuring rail travel for all residents. These ticket offices serve as essential hubs for commuters, providing assistance, guidance, and a sense of security in an increasingly digital world. Removing these offices would hinder the ability of vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those without access to technology, to access public transportation services efficiently.

Councillor Ayrden Pocock, who proposed the motion, expressed deep concern over the plans, stating:

"Many South Gloucestershire residents rely on ticket offices and the help of staff. Removing in-person ticket offices would be a great disservice to our residents, particularly those who depend on face-to-face support. We firmly believe that the Government should prioritize the needs of our community and ensure that adequate resources are allocated to maintain these vital services."

South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats have called upon the Government and Great Western Railway to engage in meaningful dialogue with local authorities and the public to address concerns and explore alternative solutions. The motion emphasizes the importance of preserving the human element in public transportation, ensuring that passengers have access to friendly and knowledgeable staff who can assist with their specific needs and queries.
