South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats have announced a victory after extending the 622 bus service for the next academic year, which serves students attending Castle School in Thornbury. The decision comes as a relief to many concerned parents who were worried about the safe transportation of their children to and from school.

The 622 bus service has been a lifeline for many students, ensuring they have a reliable and secure means of reaching the school. The extension of the service reinforces the Council's commitment to educational access and prioritising the well-being of its young residents.

The service has been facing persistent jeopardy in the wake of cuts announced by the previous Conservative administration. Under the leadership of the Liberal Democrats, South Gloucestershire Council has taken proactive measures to extend the service in order to work with parents to find a long term solution.

Councillor Chris Willmore (Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration, and Infrastructure) said:

"I am delighted that we’ve been able to extend the 622. I would like to put on record my thanks to Councillor Simon Johnson and Councillor Tony Williams for their tireless efforts on behalf of their residents. The Council recognises the importance of this service to parents, students, and all local residents."

Councillor Simon Johnson (Member for Pilning and Severn Beach) went on to say:

"I'm delighted that the 622 has been extended. This decision demonstrates the council administration’s desire to listen to residents concerns and deliver on their priorities."
